Sketching the board game
This week I will be thinking about the details of the board game. What is going to be the storyline, the type of boardgame, the rules? Which scenes have to be made for which part of the storyline? When these questions are answered I will know exactly what has to be made and then I can think of which bioplastics suits best for each part of the board game.
Cooperative game
Atlantis Is a cooperative game, where you and the other players will be collecting resources and gaining bioplastics from labs and constructing components of a cosmic gate, hoping to save your civilization.
To save Atlantis you will need to work together with the other players and plan out your actions as a group. Each player can focus on their own tasks but you’ll find more success as through teaming up.
Collect natural resources
Each round players will throw a dice and place Atlanteans on the action tile on various peninsulas. Each peninsula contains their own natural source.
Players may place their Atlanteans on a resource tile they wish to activate.
Agar comes from red algae, so in order to collect the Agar you will need to go to the sea. For the Agar to become gelatin you will need to go to the lab where you can heat the Agar up and turn it into gelatin.
Going to get resources in every peninsula requires two Atlanteans placed on one space and can allow you to gain the resource.
Winning the game
In order to win, all seven components, that are made from bioplastics, must be built before constructing the cosmic gate. In order to build the cosmic gate, each player must place their Atlantean on the same built tile and contribute at least one resource to its building cost. If this is done successfully the players have won the game. If not, it causes Atlantis to flood and you’ll be lost to the sea.
I decided to make a map of how the board game is going to look. I also want to make an infographic of it so I can explain how the game works and which part of which bioplastic will be made.
The goal of the game is to collect natural resources and gaining bioplastics to construct components of a cosmic gate to save the civilization. The bioplastics that the players will be collecting are small samples from different bioplastics. The samples can be collected from the place they are from, for example. The coffee composite can be collected at the coffee plantation. If everything is collected all the players need to go to the cosmic gate and Atlantis will be saved!
This week I will be thinking more about the game itself before I go create and cook more bioplastics recipes. I think when I have a precise idea in my head of what I want to make that my making process will go smoother.
I will be sketching a lot of ideas for boardgames and make moodboards of things that gave me inspiration.
I'm noticing that the longer I am gone from going to school the more difficult it is to focus on school. I get distracted quite easy and find it hard to start and get creative. That is why I am using my whiteboard again, this helps me making a schedule for myself and focussing on one particular thing every day.
